Helping the Helpless
25 Nov 2008
We were greeted at the airport in Phnom Penh Cambodia on Tuesday November 18th by our daughter Michelle and son-in-law Jeff. It was wonderful to see them and they wereable to literally walk us through the visa process and customs with no problems. Our grandchildren didn’t know we were moving here so they were surprised when they opened our appartment door to fine grandma and grandpa. They just laughed and laughed. We are adjusting to the culture and looking forward to our language classes starting December 1st, one hour three days a week. Two days after arriving we had the opportunity to visit PSC, Pour un Sourire d’Enfant French orphanage and vocational training center. What a wonderful model program they have, I’m taking a lot of notes. PSC is caring for 4,000 children who lived in or around the dump in Phnom Penh. These children spent there lives picking through the garbage for plastic to recycle and food to eat. I have attached pictures. We went to the dump and still so many more children. We have been asked to come back to help anytime. On Saturday we attended a seminar hosted by ICF International on “Vicarious Trauma”. This is the first seminar of its kind. I sat next to a woman from Canada who has been working in Phnom Penh with the “Haggar ministries” for the past 17 years. After the meeting she shared with me that she wished she would have had this information 17 years ago. Again God’s timing is great. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Dan went out with the Samaritans’s Purse team to assess two refugee camps for displaced people.
